Lots of upsets happened on Day One of March Madness and it is looking like another crazy year full of unlikely victories and tough loses. Harvard took down the Cincinnati Bearcats in a close game. Cincinnati came out a bit slow and Harvard was able to abuse their poor defense in the first half. Although the Bearcats improved in the second half, they had already dug them selves into a hole big enough that they couldn’t get out. The final score was 61-57.
Dayton had an amazing win vs the six seed Ohio State. The game came down to the last seconds when Dayton’s player, Sanford, hit the game winning shot. This was a really huge upset and started the madness. Aaron Craft had the last shot for Ohio State but he did not make it and his college career ended. He was very upset and avoided all interviews as he headed straight for the locker room. Dayton Flyers are now advancing to face the next team in the next round.
The Gators did not appear ready for this game against Albany but they were still able to get the win. The regular starting lineup for the Gators had a struggle and they had to rely on their bench win the game. Florida had a tremendous game in the paint and scored most of their baskets from up close. Even through a tough game of everyone playing poorly, the one seed was still able to scratch up and ugly win to advance to the next round.
Wisconsin crushed American University to get the easy win in the first round. American hadn’t played a team with the same athleticism and talent in their usual league. Wisconsin had a huge 22-5 point streak to spark the blowout win. The final score was 75-35, an embarrassing result for American University.
