Arizona has pack-line defense forces a lot of tough shots and the Wildcats lead the country in defensive effective field-goal percentage (42.2 percent). To win games they need their star player to do well. In the few games they lost during the regular season Nick Johnson did very poorly.
Wichita State is a very good team at creating room to get off good shots and they are very good at getting defensive rebounds. Their rebounding ability forces the opposing team to get off quality shots. Their best player, Fred Vanleet, makes 44.7 percent of his threes, 52 percent of his twos, has a 3.79 assist-to-turnover ratio and averages 1.9 steals per game. They were able to get to the final four and it is very hard to do that two times in a row but this team has the talent to do it again this year and if they do lose it will not be from the pressure of being undefeated.
The last four times Florida has had a top-three seed, the team has won two national titles and been to two Elite Eights. Scottie Wilbekin might be the most underrated point guard in the country. He’s a great defender, has turned into a consistent three-point threat and is great attacking off ball screens. The Gators have earned their way to the top seed, they defend, have a great point guard, a three point shooter, and an inside presence and even though they lack are surefire lottery pick, they have the most complete team in the country.
Virginia had a very strong defense and their defense dominated the ACC, holding conference opponents to 30.1 percent from deep and 43.8 percent inside the arc.Any team that can win an ACC that includes Syracuse and Duke is in the national-title hunt. Much like Syracuse’s zone defense, it will be a challenge to face a defense like Virginia’s pack-line D for teams that haven’t seen it all season.
